The new MLK Jr. Library is more than bricks and mortar – it's a living tapestry of possibility.
With extensive collections of books and films, featured events, and dynamic programming, the MLK Jr. Library provides opportunities for patrons to connect and reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Imagine what seven-year-old “Martins” and other Milwaukee kids can achieve in a world-class library like this.
Inspiration Entry Plaza
The MLK Branch entrance features a translucent image of Dr. King and 13-foot metallic “MLK” sculptural letters, serving as a beacon to welcome patrons to the new space.
Spacious 18,000-square Foot Library
The MLK Branch features ample space and anchors a 97-unit mixed-use affordable housing development to serve the needs of Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood.
Flexible Community Rooms
Large, flexible community rooms for public meetings, large groups, and community programs are designed to be used even when the library is closed.
Arts and Technology Maker Spaces
High-tech hands-on Maker Spaces, including marketing and media production areas with AV equipment and software for sound and editing.
Workforce Development Suites
Helping library patrons compete in the job market, each Suite includes high-speed WIFI, computers, and headphones to access online applications, video meetings, and interviews.
Children’s Area
An inviting Children’s Area with child-sized furniture, dedicated computers, and a feature wall with cutout reading cubbies for kids and families to enjoy.
Teen Lounge
The Teen Lounge provides a relaxed hangout spot near the Maker Space, boasting a video gaming area and comfortable seating.Testimonials
